Actually, that is sort of the point I made about working within a grid. Most "original" beadwork, is in some way derivative of what went before.

That is why "designers" go to such lengths to create stuff that is so bizarre that no one in their otherwise right mind would have stumbled upon it.

If you look at paintings, or old jewelry, you'll find not much is very new.

If you look at page 66 on the current Beadwork Stringing magazine, you'll see that one basic pattern -- spacer bead -- accent bead -- spacer bead -- focal bead -- spacer bead -- accent bead --- spacer bead -- focal bead -- etc can create looks that are widely varied, but reduce to the EXACT SAME pattern.

So, while "plagerism" is a harsh word, it's closer to the truth than saying any basic work is "original".
